Film Events

If you like theater, you most likely also enjoy reading books and seeing films associated with the theater productions. For example, the musical South Pacific, currently on Broadway, is based on the book by James A. Michener, as is also the classic film South Pacific (1958) starring Rossano Brazzi and Mitzi Gaynor.

We have been showing classic films in restaurants for years. We started at Stella's Restaurant in Alexandria in 2002 until they closed. Then we showed our films at a Bistro in Alexandria until they closed. For about a year we showed films at Tallula's Eat Bar in Arlington until they decided to show cartoons for families instead. Last year we showed films at La Cabana in Arlington until they closed. Now we are looking for another venue, preferably a restaurant where we can watch the film (DVD we purchase) on a large screen TV and enjoy food while we watch the film. We make this a social and educational event, ending with a short facilitated discussion.

We like to show films associated with theater events that are currently showing. Some of the films that we planned to show before the La Cabana closed were: Little Shop of Horrors, The Red Balloon, and Annie (see the musical Annie at Olney Theater in the fall of 2010)

Do you live in an apartment or condo with a party room that we could use. That would be an ideal situation. Also looking for community centers. Attendance has been from under 10 to close to 30. In my opinion, the ideal group size is no more than 20.
